Hold (for NL) was exhibited in ‘Votive’ at Southwark Cathedral as part of the Thames Festival throughout September 2018.
In the tradition of votives, it was gifted to the River Thames along with the other works in the show, at low tide on September 30, 2018.
Hold (For NL) is a votive for connectedness. Each component is touched and influenced by and dependent on the others around it. It is fragile, and can be ordered or chaotic, moveable and yet secure, linear or meandering. Time consuming to make, it confronts our growing detachment from the physical, and possibilities for reconnection. It resembles the chains, commonly seen along the Thames where human activities are maintained against the movements of the river itself
